How to make a Google Maps QR code
- Type your address or business name, enter exact coordinates, or paste a link from Google Maps (Share → Copy link).
- Choose how it should open: a Google Maps link works on iPhone and Android; a
geo:location opens the phone’s default map app. - Check that the scan test passes, then download and print.
Where to use a location QR code
- Shop windows, flyers and business cards — “Find us”.
- Wedding and event invitations, so guests reach the right gate.
- Property listings and open-house signs.
- Delivery instructions and hard-to-find entrances.
Tip: use coordinates for exact spots
Addresses can point to the middle of a large building or street. For a specific entrance, parking area or field, right-click the spot in Google Maps, copy the coordinates and use the latitude & longitude option.
Google Maps link vs geo: location
A Google Maps link (https://maps.google.com/…) is a normal web address. Any phone and any QR scanner can open it: in the Google Maps app if installed, otherwise in the browser. It is the safest choice for printed material. A geo: code (geo:31.5204,74.3587) is a location standard that opens the phone's default map app, such as Apple Maps on iPhone or the chosen app on Android, and works without internet until the map loads. It is great for apps and offline use, but a few older scanners only show the numbers.
How to find exact coordinates
- Open Google Maps on a computer and find the exact spot, such as a gate, parking entrance or stall number.
- Right-click the spot. The first line of the menu shows the coordinates, for example
31.52040, 74.35870. - Click the numbers to copy them and paste them into the latitude and longitude fields.
On a phone, long-press the spot to drop a pin, and the coordinates appear in the search bar.
More ideas for location codes
- Restaurants and shops: on delivery menus and Google review cards so new customers find you.
- Hotels and holiday rentals: codes for nearby beaches, restaurants and the airport in the welcome folder.
- Construction sites and warehouses: show drivers the exact loading gate.
- Schools and universities: campus maps with a code for each building.
- Tourism and trails: codes on signs that open the next point on the route.
- Weddings: separate codes for the ceremony venue, reception hall and parking.
Combine location with other information
A location code works best alongside other codes. For an event invitation, add an event QR code so guests save the date in their calendar. For a shop, add a WhatsApp QR code for questions and orders. For a property listing, pair it with a YouTube video tour. See also how estate agents use QR codes.
Frequently asked questions
Will it work on iPhone?
Yes. The Google Maps link opens in Google Maps if installed, otherwise in the browser or Apple Maps.
Can I change the location later?
This is a static QR code, so the location is fixed. Create a new code if the address changes.
Is my location sent anywhere?
No. “Use my current location” only fills in the form on your device.
Does a location QR code work without internet?
The geo: option opens the map app offline, but the map itself needs data unless the area is downloaded for offline use. Google Maps links need internet.
Can it start navigation automatically?
The code opens the place in the map app, and the user taps Directions. Navigation never starts without the user’s action.
Can I use a Plus Code?
Yes. Type the Plus Code (for example 8J3P+X2 Lahore) in the address field and Google Maps will find it.
